Disability

What you need to know

Can’t work because of an illness or injury? We have you covered. Take time off to get better or heal with PayPal’s disability insurance plans.

Short-term disability

Who it’s for: Employees who can’t work and have missed more than 7 days of work due to an illness, injury, medical emergency, or surgery. See the Maternity Leave page on The Bridge for information on maternity disability benefits.

What you get: 100% of your base salary (max of $6,500 per week) for up to 6 weeks. After 6 weeks you receive 80% of your base salary for up to 6 months total (inclusive of the first 6 weeks at 100%).

What else to know: You’ll need to wait 7 days before your benefits begin, in which Paid Sick Leave (PSL) can be applied. Disability benefits may vary depending on laws, your circumstances, and other factors.

  • Employer-paid long-term disability: 60% of base salary (up to a maximum of $25,000 per month)
  • Employee paid buy-up long-term disability: Eligible employees will receive Long Term Disability benefits of 70% of base salary (up to a maximum of $25,000 per month)

What else to know: The 70% buy-up coverage is optional. You must purchase it to be covered. Disability benefits may vary depending on laws, your circumstances, and other factors.
