Who’s eligible?
All employees working at least 20 hours a week are immediately eligible and automatically enrolled in disability insurance.
What the plans cover
Disability is covered by legal provisions as well as by a supplementary insurance taken with Swiss Life. PayPal pays 100% of the premiums for employees’ supplementary disability coverage.
As per legal provisions:
- PayPal will continue to pay your salary if you go out on sick leave due to an illness or an occupational accident until the end of the month in which the 77th day of sick leave occurs, during a reference period of 18 successive months
- Starting the month following the 77th day of your sick leave, the National Health Fund (Caisse nationale de santé – CNS) will pay your sickness benefits
- The maximum duration of compensation is 78 weeks over a reference period of 104 weeks
As per Swiss Life:
- The waiting period for this benefit from insurance is equal to 6 months
- The maximum annual disability pension is equal to 15% R1 + 70% R2 (R1 being the actual social security ceiling, e.g., €128.519 as of January 2020; and R2 is the difference between your annual salary and the social security ceiling)
- The maximum annual disability pension is fixed at €100.000
In order to benefit from the disability pension, your earning incapacity should be at least 25% of your job responsibilities. The disability pension amount will be prorated according to your recognized level of disability. If your disability is equal to 67% or above, you will be entitled to 100% of the pension amount.
In case of disability, you will continue to be entitled to the death and retirement benefits (for the employer’s contribution). The corresponding premiums and contributions are borne by Swiss Life.
