What you need to know

PayPal offers generous time-off policies so you can be there for the special moments, rest when you’re not feeling well, and recharge your batteries when you need to.

Paid time off (PTO)

PayPal values your wellness and wants you to take care of yourself and others in a way that best addresses your needs. Our paid time off (PTO) policy provides the flexibility to use your time for whatever recharges you.

You earn PTO based on your years of service:

Any unused PTO carries over to the following year.

Leaves of absence

Marriage leave

Employees receive 5 days of paid leave for their wedding and 1 day of paid leave for the marriage of their child.

Sick leave

If you become too sick to work, you’re eligible for 12 days of paid sick leave per year.

Maternity leave

If you’re expecting, you’re eligible for 14 weeks of paid maternity leave — 6 weeks (14 weeks for multiple births) before childbirth and 8 weeks afterward.

Paternity leave

If you’re a new father, you receive 5 working days of paid paternity leave.

Child care leave

You’re eligible for up to 5 working days of paid child care leave to care for your children. You can also apply for unpaid child care leave to care for a child who is 14 months of age or younger.

Anniversary leave

You’re eligible for 1 day paid leave per year for your birthday, wedding anniversary, or work anniversary.

Marriage leave

You’re eligible for 5 days paid time off for your marriage and 1 day for marriage of a child.

Disaster leave

Receive up to 5 days of paid leave in the event of a disaster.

Bereavement leave

Receive up to 20 days paid bereavement leave for the death of a family member, depending on the relationship.

Unpaid leave of absence

If you have exhausted your paid leave, you may be entitled to take leave without pay.

In extraordinary circumstances, PayPal may provide up to 30 days of unpaid personal leave to employees in good standing who need to take time off from work to fulfill urgent personal obligations not covered by paid leave.

Other paid leaves

You are also eligible for the following paid leave:

  • Summons leave: Up to the necessary number of days to fulfill obligation
  • Donor leave: Up to the number of days required
  • Public transportation suspension: Up to the number of days public transportation is unavailable
  • Work / commute-related disaster: First 3 days

Special unpaid leaves

In addition to paid leave, you’re also eligible for the following unpaid leave:

  • Menstruation leave
  • Maternity leave for medical checkups
  • Maternity protection leave
  • Infant Care leave: 5 days for the care of one child; 10 days if caring for 2 or more children
  • Dependent care leave: Up to 10 days
  • Family care leave: Up to 93 days per family member; can be taken in 3 installments
  • Work / commute-related disaster: Day 4 and onwards

Community Impact time off (paid)

Through our charitable giving initiative, PayPal Gives, you are eligible for paid Community Impact time off at 100% of your base pay for 8 hours per year while volunteering at a qualifying charitable organization. Community Impact time off is available after your first year of employment.
