What you need to know

Taking time off — away from your job — is vital to being at your best. We support this by offering ample time off for all kinds of situations.

Paid time off (PTO)

PayPal values your wellness and wants you to take care of yourself and others in a way that best addresses your needs. Our paid time off (PTO) policy provides the flexibility to use your time for whatever recharges you. 

You start earning PTO on your first day of employment:

  • First day to the end of your first calendar year — 20 days, prorated according to number of days with the company
  • First whole calendar year — 20 days
  • Each additional calendar year — 1 additional day per year, up to a maximum of 25 days

Paid leaves of absence

Marriage leave

Employees receive 4 days of paid leave for their wedding.

Bereavement leave

Receive up to 20 days paid bereavement leave for the death of a family member, depending on the relationship.

Sick and hospitalisation leave

Employees who become too sick to work are eligible for sick and hospitalisation leave.

If you have been with PayPal for at least 6 months, you can take up to 14 days of paid outpatient sick leave each year.

If you require hospitalisation and have been with PayPal for at least 6 months, you can take up to 60 days of paid hospitalisation leave each year. This includes 14 days of sick leave.

Maternity leave

Expectant mothers who have been with PayPal for at least 3 months are eligible for 16 weeks of paid maternity leave to support them throughout the latter stages of pregnancy and the child's early months.

Paternity leave

New fathers who have been with PayPal for at least 3 months are eligible for 4 weeks of paid paternity leave for the birth or adoption of each child, which can be taken flexibly within 12 months of the birth or adoption date of your child.

Shared parental leave

As a father, you are eligible for shared parental leave with your partner. If your partner agrees, you can share 4 weeks of your partner's 16 weeks of maternity leave.

Childcare leave

If you have been employed by PayPal for at least 3 months, you are eligible for childcare leave to care for your children.

Parents with children under the age of 13 receive 6 days of paid childcare leave each year.

Infant care leave

You’re eligible for infant care leave if you’ve worked at PayPal for at least 3 continuous months.

Receive 12 days of unpaid infant care each year if you have at least one child under age 2.

Both fathers and mothers with children under age 2 are eligible to apply for unpaid infant care leave each and paid childcare leave.

Adoption leave

Mothers who have worked for PayPal for 3 consecutive months and have adopted a child are eligible for 12 weeks of paid adoption leave.

Fathers of an adopted child can share up to 4 weeks of your partner's 12 weeks of adoption leave.

Personal leave

If you have exhausted your paid leave, you may be entitled to take leave without pay.

In extraordinary circumstances, PayPal may provide unpaid personal leave for up to 30 days to eligible employees in good standing who need to take time off from work to fulfil urgent personal obligations not covered by paid leave.
