What you need to know

PayPal pays 100% of the cost of premiums for you and your covered dependants for health care coverage. The plan pays benefits for eligible expenses that are not paid by provincial health care.

Who’s eligible

Employees are eligible for benefits effective their date of hire (for employees working 20 or more hours per week). Eligible dependants include spouses and unmarried children under age 21 (or under age 25 for full-time students).

How to enrol

You will receive a welcome email from Employee Central with information about your benefits and enrolment. Once onboarding is complete, our Employee Central team will start your Canada Life enrolment, and you’ll receive an invitation email from Canada Life to complete your enrolment in the group plan. You will be able to enter any dependants onto the plan and designate beneficiaries for life insurance. Keep in mind that you have 31 days to enrol from your start date.

Recently experience a life event, such as the birth or adoption of a child, marriage, or divorce? Changes to coverage such as adding a new baby or spouse must be made within 31 days of the qualifying event. If you need to make changes, go to the Health & Wellness page on the HR Hub to access the Canada Life Change Form (you must be on the PayPal network). After completing the form, submit via ticket with Employee Central.

What’s covered

The plan reimburses health care expenses for you and your eligible dependants (unlimited in Canada and up to a lifetime maximum of Can$3,000,000 per person outside of Canada).

Health care

Annual deductible: None

  • Paramedical services: Can$1,500 per person annual combined maximum for acupuncturists, athletic therapists, audiologists, chiropodists, chiropractors, dietitians, massage therapists, naturopaths, osteopaths, physiotherapists, podiatrists, and speech therapists (90% reimbursement)
  • Paramedical services: Can$1,500 per person annual combined maximum for mental health professionals:* psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, and registered clinical counsellors (BC only) (90% reimbursement)
  • Hospital care: semi-private room (100% reimbursement)
  • Private duty nursing: Can$10,000 per year (100% reimbursement)
  • Other coverage: medical appliances and supplies, ambulance, and various other coverage (100% reimbursement)
  • Orthotics: Can$300 per year (100% reimbursement)
  • Hearing aids: Can$500 every five years (100% reimbursement)
  • Prescription drugs: 90% reimbursement for the first Can$2,500 paid claims; 100% thereafter in a calendar year (no deductible) 

Out-of-province emergency medical and travel benefits are provided through Global Medical Assistance.

* Check with Canada Life to determine what type of mental health practitioner is covered under the health plan in your province. Registered clinical counsellors (British Columbia only) are covered. Psychotherapists, if regulated, are only covered in New Brunswick, Novia Scotia, PEI, Ontario, and Quebec.

Dental

The dental care plan reimburses dental expenses for basic and major services up to an annual combined maximum of Can$2,500 per person (excludes orthodontia). No deductible applies.

Preventive, diagnostic, and basic services reimbursed at 100%:

  • Checkups every six months
  • X-rays, cleanings, and fillings
  • Extractions and minor surgery
  • Gum disease treatment
  • Root canal therapy

Major services reimbursed at 50%:

  • Crowns, inlays and onlays, bridges, dentures, veneers 

Orthodontic services reimbursed at 50% to a lifetime maximum of Can$2,000 per person.

Vision

  • One eye exam per person every year
  • Up to Can$300 every two years for glasses, contact lenses, and laser eye surgery (every 12 months for dependants)

Wellness account (Vancouver employees only)

PayPal provides you with up to Can$750 annually to spend on wellness activities. If you’re a new hire, the amount is pro rata based on your hire date.

This benefit is available to Vancouver employees only.

No enrolment forms are needed. You will be enrolled as part of your onboarding and will receive a Welcome Kit from myHSA upon enrolment, including a secure portal link. Wellness expenses are paid out of pocket, and claims can be submitted online or through the mobile app. The myHSA wellness spending account is a taxable benefit.
