Time off and leaves of absence

What you need to know

PayPal offers a variety of paid leaves of absence that allow you to take care of you and your loved ones.

Paid Time Off

You start earning PTO on your first day of employment. Starting 1 January, full-time employees earn 18 hours of PTO per month / 216 hours of PTO per annum. This means you receive 27 working days of PTO a year. Part-time employees earn PTO time prorated, based on your scheduled hours. You can carry over a maximum of five days, which should be used by the end of March.

Sickness

You may qualify for sickness leave if you have complied with the notification and certification procedures per current legislation. The maximum amount of paid sick leave is 26 weeks in a 12-month rolling period. However, PayPal reserves the right to pay / not pay sickness leave at any time and will review each case on an individual basis.

Maternity leave

Expectant mothers with one or more years of continuous employment with PayPal are eligible for paid maternity leave. Receive 100% of your base salary, including state maternity benefits, up to 26 weeks. If you have less than one year of continuous employment, you’re only eligible for up to 26 weeks of state maternity benefits.

Paternity leave

Fathers receive two weeks paternity leave. Take your leave within six months of the birth or placement of a child. If you have one or more years of continuous employment with PayPal, receive 100% of base salary, including state paternity benefits. If you have less than one year of continuous employment, you’re only eligible for state paternity benefits.

Parental leave

Employees with children qualify for up to 26 weeks of unpaid leave if their child is under age 12 or up to age 16 with disabilities or long-term illness.

For adopted children, leave must be taken before the child reaches age 5 if the child is under age 3 at the time of the adoption. If the child is between ages 3 and 8 at the time of the adoption, leave must be taken within two years of the adoption.

Bereavement leave

Receive up to 20 days paid bereavement leave for the death of a partner or child, three days for a parent, grandparent, or sibling, and one day for other family members.
